Cathy's Photos
24 October 2017
Cathy and her camera are here! Some of her stunning photos record the day for you.
So you see it was a low key day today - and no rain! The festival committee must have made elaborate offerings to the rain gods. We were far removed up this end of town from the big opening event downtown this evening. Instead we spent the late afternoon over a cold Bintang with Jeffrey and Anna, hearing all about their recent adventures on the Ombak Putih, then a meal at the night market down the road.
In town this morning - coffee at Casa Luna and a stroll around the markets then Cathy and I took off to see a festival-related photographic exhibition on the restoration of a traditional Balinese house up north by the Indonesian interior architect/ photographer who had monitored the whole process. She was there and explained it all to us. It was held at the fabulous old five-star Amandari Hotel - itself an elegant combination of traditional Balinese architecture and modern comforts. We went more to enjoy its stunning setting and ambience as much as to see the exhibition.

Very surprised to see Ubud quieter than expected for the day before the festival. The market was not at all busy! And no traffic jams in the main street, Most unusual. Attendance is down due to the volcano scare. Saw Janet de Neefe, the director at Casa Luna (her restaurant down town). She sounded a bit concerned. But am sure by tomorrow things will be buzzing as usual.
Jazz’s homework turned up on email this morning and she tackled it without a peep! Then made us cupcakes for afternoon tea.
Kate had a misadventure on their excursion to Uluwatu yesterday- attacked by a “sacred” temple monkey which stole her sunglasses, giving her a mighty whack near her eye and drawing blood. Josh took her to Ubud Clinic on their return and they started her on the course of anti-rabies injections as a precaution. She has taken it very well, and is getting on with her holiday, but sporting a nasty black eye. Monkeys are NOT nice creatures. Poor Kate.
